Schools 'pushed into phonics by financial incentives'

Scott and Toni Virgin London Marathon 2011

Hi there,

Those of you that know us will know that we can regularly be seen out running on the streets of Bermuda, dodging orange yamaha scooters and pink buses! You will also know that although he does it, Scott hates running more than anything else. Toni on the other hand quite enjoys it.

We have both wanted to run a marathon for quite some time, which is lucky, because running the marathon is sure to take us "quite some time"!

We feel that there is little point in putting ourselves through this torturous process unless we can raise money for a good cause at the same time. We have both chosen to raise funds for Dyslexia Action, through It's ME! ... where 'ME' stands for 'My Education'!

It's ME! is Dyslexia Action's main national appeal. As a charity that improves lives through education the aims of our appeal are to:

* Increase awareness of dyslexia and literacy difficulties through the voices of the "real" people affected
* Build a supportive interactive online community
* Give individuals struggling with reading and writing, or those concerned about a loved one, the opportunity to share their worries, views and opinions
* Increase our fundraising efforts to enable us to help many more individuals.

Although neither Toni or I have Dyslexia we both know a number of people who have been affected by learning difficulties and have been very impressed by the work of the charity.

We have pledged to raise GBP 4000 (sorry there are no pound signs on computers over here!) for Dyslexia Action and we hope that you will help us to achieve this goal. Please have a look at the It's Me website to see all of the good work that has already been done and the future plans as a result of successful fundraising.

Please sponsor us to support the charities aims and if not for that perhaps to see us suffer on the 17th of April.
