Kara was keen to come and support the achievements of those with dyslexia. She was very happy to be at the event and spoke to us about her dyslexia, why she is supporting the cause and the importance of dyslexia support.

Whilst there he told us about his dyslexia and wanted to share his story. Tom is keen to help others understand their dyslexia and also wanted to explain why supporting those with dyslexia is so important to him!

  ]]>Fri, 18 May 2012 17:34:45 GMT<![CDATA[ Leading designer honoured at Dyslexia Action Awards Dinner ]]>Steve Edge, founder of Edge Design Ltd, was recognised for his contributions to the world of designSteve is a branding guru. A designer, jockey, fisherman and honorary Eagle Dancer of a North American Indaian tribe, Steve is a self-styled Lord Shoreditch. Describing himself as a prophet, madman and wanderer, he has worked with George Lucas, Cartier and Dior, to name but a few.

Steve is severely dyslexic and says he has never read a book. He attributes his success in having this hidden disability diagnosed early and at 13 years he got a part-time job at IPC Media. It was here he found his talent. He now believes that if he can look at a piece of design before it leaves the studio and immediately grasp its message, then anyone should be able to understand it. However, he does recognise that not everyone is lucky enough to find their gift and this is why the right help and support is so vital.

Learning Fund beneficary, Kimberley Ward, was recognised for her achievements and excellent progress at The Dyslexia Action Awards Dinner 10th Anniversary  Kim (16) was presented with The Young Person’s Award at the Dyslexia Action Awards Dinner onNovember 29th 2011 by rugby legend and 'Strictly Come Dancing' star Kenny Logan, who is also dyslexic.

Kim has had her support at Dyslexia Action’s Bath Centre funded by the It’s ME! Learning Fund and she has made exceptional progress. She was absolutely delighted to have received this award and is a true inspiration to other young dyslexic people.

Choice Award Winner Mollie, who is one-fifth of girl band The Saturdays, was delighted to be the recipient of this year's It's ME! Choice Award. Her acceptance speech was part of the awards ceremony at tonight's (November 29th 2011) Dyslexia Action Awards Dinner at the Savoy Hotel, London.

Earlier this year we ask those affected by dyslexia to nominate a dyslexic celebrity that inspired them the most and who they thought should win this year's award as part of the 10th Anniversary of the Awards Dinner. We had an overwhelming response receiving in excess of 7,500 nominations.

We thank everyone who nominated.

Congratulations to Nevander Holland in the Royal Parks Foundation Half MarathonNevander Holland took part in his first race this Sunday (9 October) to raise money for Dyslexia Action's It's ME! Appeal. Despite injury at the begining of the year Nevander was not deterred and trained hard in the lead up to the 13.1 mile challenge.

Nevander completed the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon course in less that 2 hours which is a fantastic achievement, he has also raised over £1,000 to help more children and adults with dyslexia through the It's ME! Learning Fund.

The 26.2 miles will take in both sides of the River Mersey with this carefully considered route aiming to deliver a first class race day experience for runners and spectators, so come along to see, enjoy and experience Wirral and the fantastic Liverpool city centre.

A big thank you to Kara Tointon for choosing to support Dyslexia Action by taking part in an endurance horse race on 18th September. Although she did not complete the daunting 33km course, Kara has done a huge amount to raise the profile of dyslexia as an important cause and to directly improve lives through her fundraising.

Dyslexia Action are incredibly grateful for her support. Kara remains an inspiration and role model to many with dyslexia and this is shown my the sheer number of donations and messages of support she received in the run up to the race.

Kara inspired many viewers with her BBC Three documentary Kara Tointon: Don't Call Me Stupid, where she talked openly about her dyslexia.  

The 2010 Strictly Come Dancing winner joins Amanda Holden, Lisa Snowdon and Denise Van Outen to demonstrate how easy it is to donate to charity via text thanks to Vodafone's partnership with JustGiving.

Gary Oldfied aka The Million Metre Man has now completed The Million Metre Challenge! Gary rowed his final marathon on Friday 26th August, completing a total of 1,097,070 metres on a Concept 2 rower at Leeds centre staff and supporters joined together yesterday to row half a marathon along side GarySimon Kilner, Irene Jacobs, Jo Mahler, Lynn Charmak, Frances Robertson, Gillian Stevens joined by youngsters Sam Cockcroft (11), Dan Cockcroft (7) all joined in with The Million Metre Challenge to support Dyslexia Action Leeds Centre.

Gary was joined on a rower by other fundraisers and It's ME! supporters including Dyslexia Action's very own IT supremo Tim Donne. The marathon went really well and Gary successfully met his predicted 3 hour target, so huge congratulations to him!
